Thank you for this well-written and nicely organized article, Sandra!!
Another advantage of having a brand as an artist is that it can give an artist a starting point/guidance during a dreaded but inevitable creative block.
Also, along the lines of seeking feedback for finding your niche, I think another way to aid the search is to take some time for self-reflection and ask yourself the following questions:
"What am I known for in my group of friends?"
"How do people introduce me to new people?"
"What kinds of questions do people frequently ask me?"
The answers might surprise you, especially if it's not something that you are already incorporating into your art.
Thanks for your comment Marri and your additional insights! I completely agree with them and you make a great point about how having a strong brand as an artist can provide guidance and inspiration during those periods of creative block. I definitely think that it serves as a compass to help us stay focused and aligned with our values and creative vision.
Also, your comment about self-reflection is also a valuable one. Not only is it important for us to look for feedback from others (whose opinions we value) but also take the time to reflect on our own strengths, experiences, likes, dislikes, etc. Asking ourselves the questions that you mentioned can be a helpful exercise in identifying our uniqueness and what sets us apart from others. It can also provide valuable insights into what resonates with our audience/fans/collectors and what we should or could focus on to build our brand and niche.
Absolutely! I completely agree, particularly when it comes to launching your own brand or business as an artist. It's wiser to concentrate on a single brand rather than multiple ones. x
